Abstract

Overweight and obesity are considered serious public health problems around the world and, in Brazil, the increase in obese children puts health and education professionals on alert. Therefore, the practice of educational activities in schools, including food and health, are important strategies that must be developed to raise children's awareness about healthy eating. The objective of this work was to implement food and nutritional education actions for teachers at a municipal school in Caçador/SC. The work was developed with teachers where conversation circles, lectures, active methodologies activities and culinary workshops were held. Extension activities involving educational folders with the aim of awakening the interest of teachers on the topic “the influence of teachers on schoolchildren’s diet”, in addition to lectures, cooking workshops and distribution of fruit salads at school events, provided interaction of teachers with healthy foods, sparked children's interest in colorful fruits, with different shapes and brought a sensory experience to students, parents and the community. Thus, it can be concluded that training teachers on healthy foods and encouraging them to teach students about this can contribute to improving children's eating habits, as they develop a bond of affection and trust with teachers.
