Abstract

This article will present the evaluation of the potential use of the milled asphalt material as material for use in the coating on primary roads. The reuse of material from asphalt paving has become a viable option for the rehabilitation of roads, as it is a cheaper method than conventional construction, faster and also with less environmental impact. Therefore, a case study was carried out regarding the reuse of the milled material regarding its use, storage and application in primary roads. To this end, we analyzed the reuse method used by the municipalities of Videira and Joinville, which is carried out with the aid of asphalt milling machines. From on-site visits and surveys carried out in the municipalities, it can be identified that the application of the milled material, if carried out correctly, has greater functionality, taking into account that it is made throughout the path of the road, applying the material with the use of loader for the load, bucket for transport, motor grader to spread the material as well as the roller to obtain uniform compaction. As every road needs maintenance, always needing investments, the correct application of this milled material can be seen as a maintenance saving, in addition, it is much easier to spread and compact, compared to the gravel used in the municipality of Videira and clay in the municipality of Joinville. As a result, it is expected to provide improvements in the recycling process and reuse of milled material carried out by city halls.
